“AMERICAN WRITERS AT HOME” is a coffee table book I own. I am able to peer into the private habitats of famous writers, living and dead, and imagine the spell of their genius. I look at their writing area, at their desks, at the lamp, the chair, the window out of which they gazed(ed) from time to time. I feel the stillness. I imagine that I am visiting, sitting in that room, engaged in conversation with them.
Then I look around my home. Where will I invite writerly folk to sit as we talk together in low voices? I’d better bring some style to my writing space, make it ready for that photographer who is preparing the next edition. And what about you writers out there? You had better get busy as well.
